Deepen Your Faith

Are you looking for more? Join us to find the answers we are all looking for within a community of joyful, faith-filled Catholics. Our apostolate is based on the writings and teachings of St. Josemaria, founder of Opus Dei, who believed we are all called to Sainthood, and that it can be found in ordinary life.

Discover the joy (and fun) of an authentically lived Christian life.

Who We Are

We are a Catholic lay apostolate.  We are not associated with Opus Dei, though we hold them in high regard.  We do believe that St. Josemaria Escriva has a spirituality that every layperson can learn and tap into to become holy and closer to Our Lord.

Our Mission is to bring Christ into the lives of Catholics, outside of Sunday Mass, through hospitality, the Liturgy, and community gatherings & events using the spirituality of St. Josemaria Escriva centered around the Holy Eucharist.

Our Holy Hours, Bible Studies, Conferences, & Retreats are for men and women in all walks of life and for all ages.

"How beautiful is our Catholic faith! It provides a solution for all our anxieties, calms our minds and fills our hearts with hope." ~The Way, 582

About St. Josemaria Escriva

St. Josemaria Escriva is known as the saint of ordinary life. Canonized in 2002 by St. John Paul II, his core message was what the Second Vatican Council called the Universal Call to Holiness.  In other words, we are called to sanctity in our ordinary lives.

"Your duty is to sanctify yourself. Yes, even you. Who thinks that this task is only for priests and religious?  To everyone, without exception, our Lord said: 'Be ye perfect, as my heavenly Father is perfect.'"   ~The Way, 291

Our apostolate exists to help you grow in the image of Jesus Christ.

Get Involved with The Apostolate

Hello, We’re Joe & Donna Hernandez. We are the founders of The St. Josemaria Apostolate of Evangelization. We met in 2011 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Sebastopol, CA while planning and organizing our first bible studies and parish conferences. We got married in 2015.  And in 2021 adopted our daughter, Olivia Marie, from South Korea.

Fr. Thomas Stuart, associate pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Petaluma, CA is part of the apostolate leadership team and has been involved with our apostolate since 2011, prior to entering seminary, and is our apostolate’s spiritual advisor and consultant.

We were blessed to organize multiple conferences at St. Sebastian's, two of which included Fr. Mitch Pacwa and Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers, both seen on EWTN.

Fr. Raúl Lemus was a part of the original apostolate a decade ago.  He now has welcomed the apostolate to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cotati, CA where he has been the pastor since 2016.

Fr. Mario Valencia, P.A. of St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Sebastopol, CA has welcomed our apostolate in 2022 to kick start a Lenten Program including Holy Hours and a Bible Study.

We need YOUR help (regardless of your home parish) in bringing Christ into the lives of Catholics outside of Sunday Mass. Through Christian fellowship, education and events, we want to help both practicing and non-practicing Catholics grow in their faith and become closer to the person of Jesus Christ.
